Description

Alfred Jarry.

Les Minutes de sable mémorial, followed by César-Antechrist. Paris, Fasquelle publishers, 1932. In-12 : box mastic, smooth spine, circular piece of snakeskin on the boards, spiral of brick box listel starting from the center on the first, mosaic point of brick box in the center of the second, pearl gray nubuck lining, gilt edges on witnesses, covers and spine preserved, chemise (Leroux, 1987). Second edition, edited by Jean Saltas. One of 50 numbered copies on Japon impérial (n° 6), the only large paper. The volume gathers the two publications that mark Jarry's literary debut, published in small numbers in 1894 and 1895. Perfectly established, it reproduces the typographical fancies and the illustrations of the original editions. "Alfred Jarry's literary fame has continued to grow since his death; he is the Gérard de Nerval of symbolism. He seems to have escaped from his own books; when evoking him, one says: the Father Ubu. [...] His influence can be found in painting and avant-garde literature" (foreword by Jean Saltas). A very nice copy, finely bound by Leroux. Some minor scratches to the binding.
