Ubu Roi. Drama in five acts in prose restored in its entirety as it was represented by the puppets of the Théâtre des Phynances in 1888 and the Théâtre de l'OEuvre on December 10, 1896, with music by Claude Terrasse. Paris, Edition du Mercure de France, 1897. In-12 : green half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, untrimmed, covers preserved (later binding). Autographic facsimile edition, partly original. It reproduces for the first time the music of Claude Terrasse. Jarry's last publication at the Mercure de France, probably without the consent of Alfred Vallette. Limited edition of 300 copies; this one of 280 on tinted paper Precious autograph letter signed on the preliminary page: To Louise France/ hommage des auteurs/ Alfred Jarry Claude Terrasse Moving provenance that of the creator of the role of Mother Ubu, Thérèse Wolff, known as Louise France (1841-1903). "Louise France - the one who Mother Ubu", was to note Jarry in his Almanach du Père Ubu in 1899. "Singer in Montmartre and actress at Antoine's and Lugné-Poe's, Louise France was a "nature". She was so suited to the role of Mother Ubu, at the creation in December 1896, that she took over the role during the puppet performances, at Les Pantins, in 1898" (Jarry en ymages, Gallimard, 2011, p. 149). A good copy in a modest early 20th century binding. Spine slightly faded, front cover worn and rebacked.
