[Alfred JARRY.]

A collection of four original photographs taken at the first Phalanstery. No place or date [Corbeil, summer 1898]. Beautiful collection of original photographs featuring Alfred Jarry at the Phalanstère de Corbeil - the house rented by the Vallette couple, André-Ferdinand Hérold, Pierre Quillard, Marcel Collière and Jarry in 1898 to spend the summer there. The author of Ubu can be seen jumping rope or riding his famous luxury Clément bicycle, purchased from Jules Trochon, but never paid for Detail: - Jarry on a bicycle in front of the Phalanstère [61 x 46 mm]. Famous photograph, reproduced in the Jarry en ymages catalog (p. 24). The print in the catalog bears the caption by Rachilde "Arrival at the Phalanstery of the young Indian. (Alfred Jarry dit Ubu.)" Solarized print, with tiny traces of perforations. - Jarry jumping rope in the garden of the Phalanstery [91 x 65 mm]. Nice shot showing Jarry in motion, jumping rope. Slightly solarized print in the margin. - Full-length portrait of Jarry in the garden of the Phalanstery [71 x 19 mm]. Cut-out print showing Jarry in full-length, three-quarter view, wearing, as in the previous photograph, his cycling pants. Print with irregular edges and traces of folds. - The "trolls" at the table [64 x 90 mm]. The photograph shows the members of the Corbeil Phalanstère, known as "trolls" in the familiar vocabulary of Jarry and Rachilde, at the table: Alfred Vallette in the center, Marcel and Marie-Thérèse Collière on the left, and Alfred Jarry on the right in the background, next to André-Ferdinand Hérold, partially cut. A slightly different shot is reproduced in the Jarry en ymages catalog, p. 77. Overexposed shot in the center. (Jarry en ymages, Gallimard, 2011.)
