In-8 of (3) ff., XXIII, 183 pp. stapled, entirely untrimmed with its witnesses, muted pink paper cover, modern slipcase. First edition. Title illustrated with a vignette by Tony Johannot dated 1832. A second issue copy with the titles renewed at the date of 1833 in order to integrate the volume into the complete works of Victor Hugo. Drama in five acts and in verse, performed on November 22, 1832 at the Comédie-Française: the play was banned the next day. Unique copy of the publisher Eugène Renduel, printed on China paper, enriched with : - autograph receipt signed by Camille Rogier, dated January 6, 1836, of "three hundred francs, value of three watercolors for Cromwel, le roi s'amuse et angelo" (1/2 page in-8). - Speech pronounced by M. Victor Hugo on December 19, 1832, before the commercial court, to force the Théâtre-Français to represent, and the government to let represent Le Roi s'amuse. 1 loose leaf of 8 pages, also on China paper, printed separately and distributed "free of charge to the persons who bought the previous editions of the drama". The copy is quoted by Vicaire (Manuel de l'amateur de livres du XIXe siècle IV, 380): at the time it belonged to Adolphe Jullien.
