Paris, Desessart, 1844. 2 volumes in-8 of (2) ff, 331 pp, (1) f. of table; (2) ff, 326 pp, (1) f. of table, bound in pamphlet, green half-basin, smooth spines gilt, not trimmed (pastiche binding). First edition. The literary exhumation aims at highlighting the victims of the "regents of Parnassus" - among whom Boileau. The portrait of Cyrano de Bergerac will inspire Edmond Rostand his famous "comédie héroïque" (1897). Beautiful copy, in pastiche binding. It bears the bookplate Alfred de Musset (?). Small restorations to the binding, corners slightly crushed. (Clouzot, Guide du bibliophile, p. 126: "sought after, uncommon, rare in fine condition". - Escoffier, Mouvement romantique, n° 1613).
