Paris, Ladvocat, 1825. 2 volumes in-12 of (2) ff, 238 pp; (2) ff, 225 pp, (7) ff. of publisher's catalog : half calf blue with corners, smooth spines richly decorated in long with brick calf mosaics, untrimmed, gilt heads, covers and spine of printed buff paper preserved (Semet & Plumelle). First edition put in trade. Second novel of the Duchess of Duras, with which she renewed the success, one year after Ourika. A sharp attack against class prejudice, it presents a story of impossible love and is said to have inspired, among others, Le Rouge et le Noir. Like its predecessor, it was first published in a confidential edition of 100 copies. A perfect copy in a romantic binding by Semet & Plumelle.
