Dombey and Son. London, Bradbury & Evans, October 1846-April 1848. 20 issues in 19 volumes, the last one being double, paperback, green-blue illustrated covers, modern slipcase. First edition, published in issues. It is illustrated with forty plates out of text, plus the composition adorning the cover, by Hablot K. Browne alias Phiz. The work is known to contain the first black plate published in a book (issue 18, On the dark Road). Dombey and Son also inaugurated the use of oblong plates. A rather late edition copy. It is complete with all advertisements, except for a leaflet inserted at the end of issue 10 of Letts, Son & Steer. The second cover of the first issue matches that of the second. Bookplate signatures to issues IV Easton, VIII Arthur Newland Royal Regt, XVI Nathaniel Waterall, the cover of volume XI bears the initials PWT from bottom to top.
