Description

Honoré de BALZAC.

Revue parisienne. Paris, La Revue parisienne, July 25 - September 25, 1840. 3 issues in one volume in-16, eggplant cloth à la Bradel, black morocco title page, untrimmed, cover and spine kept (Stroobants). First edition: complete collection of the three issues. Entirely written by Balzac, the Revue parisienne contains several important texts, including two short stories, Z. Marcas and Les Fantaisies de Claudine. In his Etude sur M. Beyle, he praises La Chartreuse de Parme and its author, curiously named Frédéric Stendahl. Against Sainte-Beuve, who had always treated him with disdain, his study on Port-Royal is ferocious: "By reading M. Sainte-Beuve, boredom falls on you like a small fine rain which ends up piercing you to the bones..." Beautiful copy. The copy includes the general cover printed by Garnier frères for the sale of the copies still in stock.
