Yatagan Ottoman world, 19th century Length 71,8 cm This yatagan has a typical steel blade with an inner edge. The blade is engraved with a calligraphic inscription, and a fleuron with floral decoration, inlaid with silver. A gilded copper plate covers the ferrule and the heel of the blade, with applied filigree decoration and decorated on each side with a red glass bead. The typical handle is with large ears, with double plates of marine ivory fixed by nails on both sides. nails on either side of a gilded copper edge with applied decoration, decorated with three oblong coral beads engraved with lines, and red beads. A comparable weapon with coral bead decoration is in the Metropolitan Museum (Inv. no. 36.25.1338a,b). (Wear)
