Oscar De Clerck (1892-1968) Bust of a woman Bronze with brown patina Signed and dated "Oscar DECLERCK 1936 H. 56 cm Born into a modest Belgian family, Oscar de Clerck was introduced to the artistic world by Henri Permeke, a family friend, painter and curator at the Ostend Museum of Fine Arts. During the interwar period, he devoted himself to sculpture, influenced by the cubist and futurist currents. In the thirties, he returned to a more classical figuration. His numerous busts testify to his personal aesthetic research, combining classical figuration and simplification of forms.
