Gaston Hauchecorne (1880-1945) Bust of an elderly Chinese man Bronze with green-brown patina Bears the monogram "GH" under the left shoulder H. 14.5 cm, with painted wooden base H. 4.6 cm This bust of an elderly Asian is characteristic of the production of the French sculptor Gaston Hauchecorne. Around 1900, he was an interpreter and professor at the University of Peking where he accompanied his brother Armand Hauchecorne, permanent consul of the Chinese Empire. In 1922, he exhibited his ethnographic and humorous works at the National Colonial Exhibition in Marseille and at the salons of the National Society of Fine Arts throughout the 1920s.
