JAPON XIXE SIECLE

Suzuribako made of ro-iro and fundame lacquered wood, with gold and silver hiramaki-e decoration, and mother-of-pearl inlays, representing eight horses and a foal, two of them fighting. It opens on the inkstone and the mizuhire dropper, the reverse side of the lid decorated with a pewter moon above reeds. Dim. 4 x 22,5 x 21 cm (Small shocks on the lid and inside, restorations to the corners of the lid, wear, scratches) PROVENANCE Private Parisian collection of Mr. L. constituted on three generations since the end of the 19th century. Possible invoice of September 12 or December 1967 at Michel BEURDELEY, 4 rue de l'Élysée in Paris (75008). Maybe one of the two Japan boxes of lot 98 mentioned in the first line.
