EIN GROSSER GLASIERTE ''LÖWE UND VASE'' DACHREITER (JISHA)

A LARGE GLAZED POTTERY "LION AND VASE" ROOF TILE (JISHA) China, Ming Dynasty Pottery. H. 55 cm. The lion stands on all-fours on plinth base, saddled with a blanket reaching to the ground, and surmounted by a detachable finial in shape of a buddhist vase. With obvious traces of age and use, partially damaged. The Jisha is an architectural element located in the center of the main ridge, which could be mostly seen on temples. This piece should have its origin in Shanxi Province and can be compared with a similar piece on the Vairocana Hall in Guangsheng Temple, Hongdong County, Shanxi Province (renovated in 1497). A LARGE GLASSED ''LION AND VASE'' ROOF RIDER (JISHA) China, Ming Dynasty Ceramics. H. 55 cm. The lion stands on four legs on a base, saddled with a cover reaching to the ground and topped by a removable knob in the shape of a Buddhist vase. Part. dam., with clear signs of age and use. The jisha is an architectural element in the center of the ridge of the roof, mainly seen on temples. This piece should have originated in Shanxi Province and is comparable to a similar piece on the Vairocana Hall in Guangsheng Temple, Hongdong County, Shanxi Province (renovated 1497).
