GJON MILI (1904–1984)

GJON MILI (1904–1984) | Movement Study Nora Kaye, New York 1947 | Gelatin silver print, printed in the 1980s on double-weight semi-matte paper, in perfect condition 19 x 24,1 cm “Life” credit and copyright stamp with handwritten photographer’s name on reverse Mili came to the United States in 1923, where he trained as an electrical engineer and assisted Harold Edgerton. From 1939, he also embarked on a career in photography himself, working frequently for “Life magazine”. He was a pioneer in the use of stroboscopic flash to capture movement. This lot shows prima ballerina Nora Kaye performing a pas de bourrée at the American Ballet Theatre in New York City. Mili kam 1923 in die Vereinigten Staaten, wo er eine Ausbildung zum Elektroingenieur absolvierte und Harold Edgerton assistierte. Ab 1939 schlug er auch selbst die Fotografen-Laufbahn ein und arbeitete vor allem für das “Life magazine”. Er war ein Pionier in der Verwendung von stroboskopischem Blitzlicht zur Aufnahme von Bewegungsabläufen. Das vorliegende Los zeigt Primaballerina Nora Kaye bei der Aufführung eines Pas de Bourrée im American Ballet Theatre in New York City.
