From 1925 he worked in the studio of the photographer Hella Katz on Vienna’s Stubenring and in 1926 founded the “Ringwerkstätten für Kunsthandwerk und Lichtbildkunst” at her address. The present nude study clearly shows his orientation towards Art Nouveau, for example in the setting with draped cloths and arranged natural flowers. Graphic elements drawn into the negative and appearing white in the print accentuate the design. After a bomb hit destroyed most of his estate in 1944, only a few original prints have survived. Therefore, his rare prints – especially in the quality offered here – are particularly sought-after collector’s items. Anton Josef Trčka, bekannt auch unter seinem Künstlernamen „Antios“, begann seine künstlerische Ausbildung 1911 in Karel Nováks Fotoklasse an der Grafischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt, widmete sich aber stets auch Dichtung, Malerei, Plastik und Kunstgewerbe. Seit 1925 arbeitete er im Atelier der Fotografin Hella Katz am Wiener Stubenring und gründete 1926 an ihrer Adresse die „Ringwerkstätten für Kunsthandwerk und Lichtbildkunst“. Der vorliegende Akt zeigt deutlich seine Orientierung am Jugendstil, etwa im Setting mit drapierten Tüchern und arrangierten Naturblumen. Ins Negativ gezeichnete und am Abzug weiß erscheinende grafische Elemente akzentuieren die Gestaltung. Nachdem 1944 ein Bombentreffer den Großteil seines Nachlasses zerstörte, haben sich nur wenige Originalabzüge erhalten. Daher sind seine raren Abzüge – zumal in der hier angebotenen Qualität – besonders begehrte Sammlerstücke.
