Description

SUARÈS, André.

Les Pèlerins d'Emmaüs. Paris, Léon Vanier, 1893; small square in-8, red half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine decorated with a set of gilt fillets, gilt head, parchment cover printed in red and spine preserved, untrimmed (binding by Semet & Plumelle). First edition, printed at 300 copies, on Van Gelder laid paper. It was printed with the complicity of Romain Rolland who managed to finance the edition without the knowledge of the shady author. First book of André Suarès (1868-1948). He had most of the copies destroyed, even objecting to the fact that the one-act play was staged at the Théâtre de l'OEuvre by Lugné-Poe. Pitting on the parchment cover. Ex-libris Albert Natural
