Rare first edition, dedicated to Hyacinthe Thabaud de Latouche, known as Henri de Latouche (1785-1851), a Berrichon like George Sand, who, after having guided the young Balzac in the writing of Les Chouans, became the literary adviser of his compatriot and introduced him to the Figaro. Signature on the false title of the first volume and on the title of the second volume. From the library of Paul Voute, his sale Paris, 1938, n° 169.
