Adolphe; anecdote found in the papers of an unknown person and published by M. Benjamin de Constant. London, Colburn & Paris, Tröttel et Wurtz, 1816; in-12 of VII, 228 pp, fawn calf, smooth spine decorated, red morocco title page, gilt fillet framing the boards, decorated edges, gilt edges (English binding of the time). Genuine first edition, printed and edited in London. The London edition is of great rarity: three copies are known in public libraries: British Library, Harvard and Oxford. The Bibliothèque nationale de France does not possess it. The first Parisian edition, published almost at the same time, was printed by Crapelet from the proofs of the English edition. (In French in the text, BN 1990, n° 225. - Courtney, A Bibliography of Editions of the Writings of Benjamin Constant to 1833, no. 18a. Carteret I. 178 First edition printed in London. Copy of the Prince of Wales with his heraldic iron with three feathers at the head of the spine. Copy in English binding, strictly period. Restorations to the spines and headpieces. Heraldic iron at the head of the spine, partly faded. Ex-libris Albert Natural. Brown half morocco folder, mention at the foot in gilt letters " Ex du prince de Galles " case.
