Description

Midam (né en 1963)

Kid Paddle India ink on paper for the two versions of the gag n°23 of the series. Signed at the bottom right. 31 x 24 cm each. Midam starts in the magazine Spirou in 1992 where he is used as a filler without this being pejorative. He made his debut by animating various columns. The following year, he devoted himself to the video games section and created the character of Kid Paddle whose name Kid Paddle - Who's that one? appears in the n°2887 of the newspaper of August 11, 1993 in margin of the Shazam section. A little later in the n°2890 of September 1, 1993, the column becomes Pas de Joystick pour Kid Paddle and finds its public. In front of the enthusiasm of the readers, the editor of Spirou, Patrick Pinchart, invites him to pass from the half-page to the full page. The gag present at this sale was published in the n°2916 of the newspaper of Spirou to illustrate the game Zool of which it takes various elements. To explain the differences between the two versions, let's let Midam speak: "When I started Kid Paddle in Spirou magazine in 1993, my drawing style was still in the making and my characters were only in the infancy of their graphic life. When in 1996, it was decided to print a first album, my style had changed so much during these three years that I had to redraw about fifteen plates. At the same time, I took the opportunity to install the little barbarian as the only avatar of Kid Paddle. So there are only these fifteen or so gags that were published in one form in Spirou and in another, "updated" form, in the first album."
