Comte Lancelot Théodore TURPIN de CRISSE

Count Lancelot-Théodore TURPIN de CRISSÉ (1782-1859): Landscape with a scene of witchcraft or a scene of sabbath in a forest, oil on canvas signed with the monogram with the count's crown and dated 1841 down to the right on a rock - 98 x 130 cm. This work was part of the Exhibition: Lancelot-Théodore Turpin de Crissé at the Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Angers n°67 of the catalog (2006-2007). It is a nocturnal representation of a Sabbath scene in the forest of Fontainebleau with two oaks, one of which is struck by lightning; the landscape bathed in moonlight brings together thirteen characters, eleven of whom are near a fire with an owl on the cauldron and a cat; a young and elegant woman lying on a rock looks at the scene, accompanied by a raven. It is Adele, the artist's wife who served as a model; an hourglass and two wolves decorate the composition - Dimensions with its frame : 124 x 155 cm
