Two panthers. Bronze with brown patina, signed under the paw and numbered 112, resting on a rectangular base in black marble with steps. H. 36 x W. 82 x D. 20 cm. History Georges Lavroff is a leading figure of the Russian animal sculpture of the Art Deco movement. Originally from Siberia, his stay in Paris in the 1930s marked a turning point in his career. His animals with cubic faces, always dynamic and full of grace, are successfully exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne. Upon his return to Russia, he was imprisoned by the Stalinist regime and sentenced to five years in a labor camp before being rehabilitated and recognized by his country. A monographic exhibition was dedicated to him in Moscow in 1982, where he died in 1991.
