Pavel Fedorovich TCHELITCHEW (1898-1957).

Study of bathers. Ink and ink wash on paper. Framed. H. 44 x W. 27.5 cm (at sight). Provenance - Lincoln Kirstein Collection (1907-1996), New York (acquired directly from the artist). - Private collection, USA (donated by Lincoln Kirstein). - Private collection, USA (acquired from the previous owner). - Sale "Impressionist and Modern Art", Sotheby's, New-York, 6 May 2010, lot 383. - French private collection. Note This study is one of the preparatory works for the final work entitled "Bathers," oil on canvas, sold at Sotheby's London on February 16, 2017 for GPB 368,750. The foreshortened central figure features New York City Ballet dancer Nicolas Magallanes, and on the right is Charles-Henri Ford, recognizable by his hat, an American poet and famous partner of Tchelitchew.
