Spanish school of the first half of the 20th century. "Sacred Heart". Polychrome stucco. One hand is missing. Slight lack of polychromy. Measurements: 32 x 12 x 12 cm. Devotional image of the Christ of the Sacred Heart made in polychrome stucco, worked in round bulk. Christ is represented full-length, standing, dressed in a simple tunic and a cloak with naturalistic drapery. His hands are stylised, harmonising with his slender waist. The heart, typical of this iconography, stands out on the chest. Particularly noteworthy is the nobility of the face, serene and idealised. His feet are placed on a mass of clouds to symbolise his ethereal condition. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a late iconography, officially consecrated in 1685 as a symbol of the meeting of Protestantism and Jansenism, of God's love for all men, without exception. The theme entered Catholic iconography definitively in the 18th century, in two plastic forms: as a flaming heart applied externally to the chest of Jesus, or as rays of light emanating from an incision made on his chest, on the side of the heart.
