BRETON André.

The lamp in the clock. Robert Marin, 1948. In-12, paperback. First edition. Copy of the famous bibliophile Alain le Breton with his bookplate. Attached to the copy is a handwritten card from Breton to Alain Le Breton dated August 25, 1950: "Very dear friend, I know La Coste well (where a photograph of me was taken and reproduced in La Lampe dans l'Horloge). I went there with Pierre Guerre, from Marseilles, who had to write a poetic text on these places: this is even why I had renounced it myself (an image of the ruins appears in the frontispiece of a surrealist pamphlet: Rupture inaugurale). Gilbert Lely has, I think I remember, evoked La Coste at length in the introduction to : L'Aigle, mademoiselle. This puts me in a quandary in the presence of your proposal. I will nevertheless think about it. Very impatiently awaited: L'Expression individuelle, Tome1. With my most affectionate memory, André Breton". Attached is an original 24 x 30 cm photograph by and signed by Elisa Breton depicting Breton on his knees in the park of Lacoste, dear to the Marquis de Sade. This photograph is reproduced in La Lampe dans l'Horloge.
