Pair of small low marquises in molded and gilded wood stamped L. C. Carpentier, from the Transition period The square back, flat, the arched armrests decorated with moldings and ribbons. Square seat, sheath feet fluted on two sides and smooth on the other two. H. 84 W. 64 D. 52 cm Provenance : Daguerre sale March 4, 2015 n°299. Louis-Charles Carpentier received master in 1752 He was a renowned carpenter and the official supplier of Louis Joseph de Bourbon, Prince of Condé, the Duke of Orleans and important members of the Parisian aristocracy. By their original form, these chairs can be dated to the production of the Transition period, around 1770, well represented in the Louvre by the suite of eight armchairs and two sofas (Grog-Carven donation) and the sofa with cheeks (former Seligman collection).
