Description

Pair of large molded wood armchairs, carved and gilded stamped I BOUCAULT of Louis XV period With flat backs, whip-like armrests, they rest on curved legs finished with a scroll. Rich decoration of shells and pomegranates in foliage. H. 102 L. 76 D. 62 cm Jean Boucault received master in 1728 Our pair of armchairs is almost identical to the one from the Luigi Laura collection, sold for 1,550,000 francs (236,000 euros) at Sotheby's Paris on June 27, 2001, lot 50 (see ill. 1). The Laura pair was not stamped and had been attributed to Tilliard. But the stamp, present on our two armchairs, indicates their true authorship: Jean Boucault. Note the rare engraved decoration on the back of the backs of our seats.
