SMALL COMMODE DE STYLE LOUIS XV with heads of man and woman Late 19th - early 20th century rosewood on oak frame; gilt bronze; marble H. 98 cm, W. 75 cm, D. 34 cm Provenance Collection J.B. This small arched chest of drawers, with three drawers in front and uprights with espagnolettes, is topped by a high molded cornice supporting a marble top. The straight veining of the rosewood contrasts with the movement of the gilded bronzes. On the jambs stand out, in the round, the head of a young woman on the left and that of a young man with a coat of arms on the right. We appreciate the quality of the sculpture which evokes the so-called "caryatid" falls of the furniture Linke (fig. 1). Our chest of drawers is indeed very close to the models designed by François Linke (fig. 2).
