Pair of monumental sconces XIXth century Gilded bronze Small damages H. 105 cm, W. 70 cm, D. 50 cm Each of these monumental sconces measures more than a meter and presents a corolla of seven flowered branches forming as many arms of light. The symmetrical composition on either side of the central axis ending in a bobèche, the palms enriched with seeds, and the stems tied together with a ribbon, are all based on the model created by Germain in 1756 (fig. 1). The Duke of Orleans had ordered a suite of four of them, including a pair to decorate the mantelpiece of his room in the Royal Palace (fig. 2).
