Description

CIRCULAR TABLE Belgium, ca. 1810 Mahogany and yellow wood; red griotte marble from Belgium Restored tabletop bottom H. 78 cm, D. 120 cm Provenance Château Wannegem-Lede Collection J.B. This large circular table rests on four bracketed legs joined by a rosette brace on four clawed lion paws mounted on casters. It presents an elegant stylized plant ornamentation, composed of rosettes, foliage, flowering branches by inlays of light wood and frames of the same in the mahogany veneer. Our table comes from the castle of Wannegem-Lede, built on the lands of the former seigniory of Montmorency by the architect Barnabé Guimard (Amboise, 1739 - Mosnes, 1809) in 1785 and in which an Empire salon had been fitted out. This type of furniture, rather rare in Belgium, testifies to the rank and prestige of the owners. Another remarkable ensemble can be found in the town hall of Tienen.
