A couple of naked children pretend to go and pick the tulips that escape from the vases placed on top of the columns. They climb on the base and cling to the garlands wrapped around the white marble shafts. The subject evokes the girandoles with figures mentioned in the diary books of the great bronze makers of the end of the century (Versailles, two centuries of art history - Studies and chronicles by Ch. Baulez, collection, 2007, p. 414-416). Our pair of girandoles is characterized by the abundance of its arabesque branches which gives it an exotic tone, as if our two wild children were trying to shake a tree to make the fruits fall...
