The decoration of this suite of four armchairs with their sofa is the same for all the seats. The frieze of heart-shaped stripes that decorates the perimeter of the hat backs continues on the arms. The acanthus on the shoulders is found on the arm supports while the triglyphs sculpted at the base echo the fluted crosspiece. This clever decorative system evokes the salon furniture of Marie- Antoinett e that Dupain made for Saint-Cloud, where a frieze of ovals runs around the backrest and the armrests (fig. 1). Our living room furniture is here upholstered with a tapestry with fl euris and foliage branches on a yellow background, from the same period. We also note the beautiful turning of the spiral legs.
