This pair of armchairs has nice small arched legs, quite rare for the period. The carved decoration is simple and elegant. Fl eurettes blossom on the back of the hat, on the feet and on the apron, while long acanthus leaves emphasize the curve of the shoulders, following a characteristic distribution of Claude Sené's style, which is also reflected in a caned armchair kept at the Metropolitan Museum of New York (fig. 1). The same inspiration can be found in his neighbor and contemporary Jean Avisse's "turquoise" Camondo, whose eight arched legs are surmounted by fl eurett es and the backrests enhanced with acanthus (fig. 2). Our seats are upholstered in embroidered silk with polychrome floral motifs on a cream background, the movement of which accompanies the supple contours of the violoné back, the belt and the armrests treated as a whip.
