GOURMET (Le), journal of gastronomic interests. Paris, Imp. Dubuisson et Cie, 1858. 24 issues bound in one vol. in-folio, almond green half-calendar, title page (Binding of the period). Extremely rare complete collection of the Journal gastronomique, a weekly Sunday newspaper founded by Charles Monselet on February 21, 1858. On August 1, 1858, its 24th and last issue was put on sale; it listed the main articles and illustrious editors of the 23 previous issues: Eugène Sue, Aurélien Scholl, Méry, Banville, Théophile Gautier, Jules de Goncourt, Aubryet, La Bédollière, Eugène Wœstyn, Paul d'Ivoi and Alexandre Dumas. Attached is a handwritten letter from J. Saint-Léon, dated Paris May 17, 1858 and addressed to "Mon cher Monselet", on the letterhead of the "Entrepôt Général des Vins du Grand Cru de Château-Palmer (Margaux-en-Médoc)", in which the winegrower warns that he will not pay for the advertisements placed in the journal on the grounds that too few copies (366) have been sold at the end of the two-month trial period. From the library of Christian Millau, co-founder of the Gault-Millau guide, whose fame has spread around the world (with invoice in his name). Traces of folds. Some stains and foxing. Vicaire, 419.
