The first one was published in 1830 under the title Dictionnaire des substances alimentaires indigènes et exotiques, et de leurs propriétés. This work presents a wealth of information on products from all over the world, historical, gastronomic and medical anecdotes and recipes. Aulagnier (1767-1839), a member of the Academy of Medicine, was appointed physician to Joseph Bonaparte, King of Naples, and Queen Julie in 1806; he dedicated this second edition to them. "His dictionary is a mine of very valuable information on food products from all over the world, with historical, literary, anecdotal, scientific, gastronomic and medical notes. It also contains recipes." (Oberlé). Copy offered to Dr. Casimir Broussais, son of the great François Broussais (who died that same year 1839), by Ad. Aulagnier, the author's son: "to my friend Doctor Casimir Broussais, Paris February 22, 1840, Ad. Aulagnier legatee of his father's works". Some foxing.
