A small celadon-glazed porcelain brushwash on three feet, China, probably Longquan kilns, Ming period; transformed into an inkwell in the 19th century in Europe with the help of gilt bronze mounts in the Louis XV style A hinged openwork cover with rocaille decoration lifts to reveal another cover that closes the inkwell tightly. At the base, another bronze mount in the rocaille style in which are embedded the three small feet of the shell. H. with mounts : 10,5 cm Pierced, cracks. The small restorations to the gold lacquer on the edge of the shell lead to think that before being transformed into an inkwell it was probably part of a Japanese collection.
