Max Slevogt Selbstbildnis mit Kindern im Atelier 1911 Oil on panel. 50 x 39.5 cm Framed. Titled and dated lower right with pencil 'Weihnachen 1911'. Estate stamp verso and inscribed by Wolfgang Slevogt with year of creation and estate number '144'. The painting is listed in the Estate inventory with no. 144. Provenance Estate Max Slevogt; thenceforth family property, Bavaria In this vibrant study, the painter has presented himself at the easel wearing a fine suit and tie and equipped with a brush and palette. In the foreground he has depicted his two children, Nina and Wolfgang, whose poses and expressions range between curiosity and amusement. That same year, he created the larger family portrait with his wife and children which is to be found today at the Max-Slevogt-Galerie, Schloss “Villa Ludwigshöhe”, GDKE, Landesmuseum Mainz (“Familie Slevogt am Kornfeld”, in: exh. cat. Max Slevogt, Saarbrücken/Mainz 1992, cat. no. 97 with colour ill.).
