Good condition. Very rare and important document on the French occupation of Berlin. Order of the commander-in-chief of the French troops in Berlin, issued on the day that the French troops, whose first units had arrived in Berlin on July 3, were assigned the districts of Reinickendorf and Wedding. "En accord avec les Alliées, je prends à la date du 12 août 1945 le Commandement du Gouvernement Militaire des Districts de Reinickendorf et de Wedding... Note: Denny Jacobs, born in 1945, hails from Arnhem and has established himself as a prominent painter renowned for his prolific output of nude portraits and charmingly naive yet realistic depictions of village life, drawn from his cherished childhood memories. His paintings evoke an era of innocence, brimming with narrative depth and nostalgia. Jacobs's journey as an artist is intricately woven with personal anecdotes, as he once revealed, "I was bitten by a dog in the past. That's when I started painting." A colorful character in his own right, Jacobs is a familiar presence in Arnhem, often seen frequenting the lively terraces beneath his city center apartment, where he both lives and works. He delights in regaling anyone who will lend an ear with tales of his colorful past exploits, including encounters with "a famous actress," as well as reminiscing about a girl he immortalized on canvas. Not without his share of tumultuous experiences, Jacobs openly acknowledges his past involvement with drugs and the gritty nightlife scene, themes that permeate his earlier works capturing the vagrants and luminaries of Arnhem during the 1980s and 1990s. Under the tutelage of the esteemed artist Harry van Kruiningen, Jacobs honed his craft, mastering the intricacies of painting interiors and portraits. His artistic journey also led him to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem and later at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In recognition of his contribution to the art world, the Henriette Polak Museum in Zutphen curated a retrospective exhibition of Jacobs's work in 1995, showcasing the evolution of his distinctive artistic vision.
