Baby Jesus 18th century beeswax sculpture within glass case Jesus child length cm 48 approx., glass case cm 69x27.7x38.8 Provenance: Conti Tombesi Trecci da Montepulciano. Very rare 18th-century liturgical sculpture depicting Baby Jesus, in polychrome wax arranged within an early 19th-century wooden shrine. The child's sweet face is masterfully modeled thanks to the pliability of beeswax, with hand-painted details, real hair and cloth dating to the 18th century. Ancient wax sculptures are usually extremely fragile and are often damaged, while the present one is distinguished by a very good state of preservation, as well as a very high quality of modeling. Inside the shrine there are decorations with angels and flowers from recent times. Because it is very fragile, it is preferable that the buyer pick up the lot personally.
