Francesco Brizio (Bologna 1574 - Bologna 1623), The Madonna of the Bowl. early 17th century Etching on slightly burnished virgin paper, with lily watermark in the circle 50x31 cm Third state of three after addition of dedication by Livio Agocchia, signed lower right 'Brizio sculp' This engraving depicts the Madonna of the Bowl by Antonio Allegri known as Correggio. The scene is a Rest in Egypt of the Holy Family engraved by Francesco Brizio, an Italian painter and engraver of the Bolognese school, active in the early Baroque period. Also known as Nosadella, he was initially a pupil of Bartolomeo Passarotti, and later became a pupil of Agostino and Ludovico Carracci.
