Description

45. Ivory incense burner, Japan, Meiji period, with two curved handles engraved with flowers and phoenixes and two reserves on the body inlaid in the shibayama style with scenes of an oni leading a boat in which a large vase in bloom is enthroned and on the other side a meeting of the shichi fukujin (seven gods of happiness) under cherry trees in bloom. The whole rests on a base imitating rocks. (Many missing and repaired). Height : 23 cm.
