Large Greek Gold Antelope-Headed Earring. 5th-3rd century B.C. A gold earring composed of a tapering twisted wire hoop and stylised antelope head with curved horns, filigree ornament at their necks, loop beneath the chin of one; with one later to form a matched pair. Cf. The Metropolitan Museum, accession number 74.51.3459, for similar. 16.98 grams total, 33-35 mm (1 1/4 - 1 3/8 in.) Acquired 1970-1999. London collection of the late Mr S.M., thence by descent.
