Cistercians - - Libellus diffinitionum ordinis Cisterciensis. Torso with Distinctiones 2-15 (of 15). Latin manuscript on parchment. Central/Western Europe, 14th/15th century. 63 modern counted leaves. Gothic textura by probably 3 hands, ruled throughout and with red lombards, headings and chapter numbers in red. 16 x 12.5 cm (type area approx. 12.5 x 9 cm). New vellum cover with pulled-through frets in cardboard slipcase. Late medieval manuscript of the rules of the order, part of the "Nomasticon Cisterciense". - The manuscript bears a note at the head of the first leaf "Usus Sacri Ordinis Cisterciensis" probably of the 18th century, thus became incomplete early. The text begins with the explicit of the second Distinction and the incipit of the third ("qui agit de divino officio"). The counting stops with the end of Distinctio X (p. 48v), and a later marginalia on p. 54r marks the beginning of Distinctio 14. The colophon on p. 63v reads "Hic expliciunt diffinitiones nove," below which is the common scribal saying "Qui scripsit scribat et longe tempore vivat amen." - Marginal errors without loss of text on sheet 1 (professionally set), sheets 42, 58 and 60 (there set with loss of half a line recto). Sheets 27 and 47 with small parchment error in the margin and the top line, respectively. Outer margins with fine chucking holes almost throughout, trimmed towards the end with touching marginalia. Occasionally somewhat stained and rubbed, overall in good condition.
