Roth, Eugen. Vier eigenhändige

Roth, Eugen. Four handwritten postcards to the writer and critic Curt Hohoff. Circa 1941-1942. Eugen Roth (1895-1976) is one of the most widely read poets in the German-speaking world, with his cheerful and thoughtful "Ein Mensch" poems and stories. - Roth tells the writer, literary critic and essayist Curt (also Kurt) Hohoff (1913-2010) about their mutual friend the writer Georg Britting and about everyday life during the war: "Munich is summer quiet, as if dead. Even literature no longer breathes a sigh of relief. In the silence, however, I am still busy, who knows how long. - Despite his anti-militaristic stance, Roth was drafted and sent on a reading tour to look after the troops: "I'm sick of it, although it's child's play and often quite nice...". - Somewhat stained, corners bumped, a bit rubbed.
