The attribution to the artist is based on a certificate by van Dyck expert Justus Müller Hofstede dated March 21, 2006._x000D_
Hofstede thought he recognized Lady Belhaven in the portrait. However, it can be stated that there are several ladies in Van Dyck's oeuvre who look similar, such as Lady Anne Cavendish, Lady Rich, but only Lady Mary Newton wears the same jewelry. Especially the brooch is comparable._x000D_
