Description

Attributed to Mathieu BEFORT (1813-1880) A macassar ebony veneer sideboard with rich gilt brass inlay decoration with scrolls, tendrils and scrolls, opening in front by two doors decorated with a figure of Dyonisos and a Bacchante in high relief. It rests on a plinth with spinning feet. (Damage and missing parts). End of the 19th century. Height : 107,5 cm 107,5 cm - Width : 151 cm - Depth : 52 cm Mathieu Befort called Befort Jeune (1813-1880), cabinetmaker, son of the cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste Befort (died in 1840). Established at 1 and 6, rue Neuve-Saint-Gilles in Paris from 1844 to 1880. Like his older brother Bernard, he specialized in the manufacture of furniture in Boulle marquetry or rosewood with rich bronze decorations. His production is always characterized by a great quality of execution and he became the official supplier of Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie.
