Exhibition : Masculine/masculine, the naked man in art from 1800 to today. Musée d'Orsay September 24, 2013 - January 2, 2014. n°44 page 65 Inspired by Pierre Julien's Dying Gladiator, this marble sculpture is his reception piece at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1779, now in the Louvre Museum. It is an emblematic work of their series devoted to mythological heroes, in a theatrical setting that is a true homage to neoclassicism.
