LOUIS XIII (1610-1643) Eight gold Louis with a laurel head. Work of Jean Warin, struck in Paris in 1640. Fluted edge. 53,55 g Head of the king on the right. Below, 1640 between two dots. R/ Cross formed of eight crowned L's and canted by four lilies. Letter A (Paris) in a circle in the center. D. 1295. C. 1608. Fr. 407. Provenance: Alexandrine Soleirol (1848-1883), who received it from her grandfather Joseph François Soleirol (1781-1863), a polytechnician, bibliophile, and numismatist whose prestigious collection of Byzantine coins was sold in Paris on July 19, 20, and 21, 1855, at Hôtel Drouot.
