[SECESSION WAR] - LELIEPVRE (Eugene). [Riders of the Civil War]. (Paris), (ca 1960), 45 x 56 cm each, 8 original gouaches in colors, on beige canson in sheets. Very nice tempera suite, signed on all the plates. Eugène Leliepvre (1908-2013) was an official painter of the armies since 1951, also a model maker and a figurinist. Passionate from his youngest age by military history and uniformology, he devoted to these themes the main part of his work, with a predilection for the French army of the Ancien Régime. He was a member of the French Squadron from 1925 to 1928, a military preparation society, and was part of its horse show team from 1926. He did his training in the 11th Regiment of cuirassiers and then served in the artillery by changing arms. He was appointed in 1951 as a painter of the Army. He is also known as the "painter of the elegant women", from 1940 to 1960, creating many paintings of women, including La meneuse de revue (Folies Bergère). He was a prominent member of the Sabretache.
