Pocket watch Wilhelm Bröcking, Hamburg GG 585/000, 3 covers of gold, case no. 170294, movement no. 278217, Ø 55 mm, total weight cxa. 97 g., The inscription on the cuvette: "W. Bröcking Hamburg" indicates that the name Bröcking was highly respected in Hamburg. The father Johann Wilhelm Hinrich Bröcking founded already in 1830 the watch company Bröcking, which was continued by the son Wilhelm Bröcking after his death in 1862. Since 1883 he was watchmaker of the Seewarte Hamburg and among other things responsible for the release of the time ball, which served the chronometer tuning on the ships. He made pocket and ship chronometers, some of which were submitted to the chronometer examinations of the Deutsche Seewarte. He also built the standard time clock at the Hamburg Stock Exchange, which was in operation until 1972. He died in 1897; the business in Hamburg was continued - last at Jungfernstieg 7 - by his descendants until 1962.
