Set of three Ofo statues Nigeria Wood, metal H. 35 to 40 cm Objects of worship widespread in Igbo country, the ofo intervene in all events of private or public life. Their name ofo in the Igbo language refers to the sacred tree from which they are made. Blacksmiths from the Anambra River region, a tributary of the Niger, produced this characteristic type of ofo. Body without limbs, adorned and corseted with iron, head haloed with metal to which responds an openwork ring marking the caudal end. See Houdart R., 2001, p. 17.
